Dr M tells of ‘plans’ to start new Malay party

PETALING JAYA: Dr Mahathir Mohamad today proposed the set-up of a new party to enrich Malays “who have yet to receive anything”, some two weeks after losing his membership of the party he founded four years ago.

In a sarcasm-laden blog post, the former prime minister said the party would be called “Parti Apa Aku Dapat” or “What’s In It For Me”.

“A lot of Malays like to form political parties,” he said.

“Previously, I set up PPBM. Now the party has split into two. This is why I want to form another Malay political party.”

He said the party would appoint individuals as officers in organisations set up exclusively to give huge incomes to those who had yet to receive anything or who wanted more.

“Anyone who has not received anything can apply to be members – president, deputy president, vice-president and so on. No fees will be charged.”

Mahathir was chairman of PPBM before losing his membership.

He was sacked along with his son Mukhriz, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, Amiruddin Hamzah and Maszlee Malik for joining the opposition bench in the recent Dewan Rakyat sitting.
