Racism: MFL wants victims to lodge report

PETALING JAYA, 9 Mac -- Victims of racism in the Malaysia League (M-League) have been told to lodge official complaints with the Malaysian Football League (MFL).MFL chief executive officer Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan said that they, as the administrative body of the M-League, viewed the matter seriously.“However, we have yet to receive any complaints thus far,” he told a press conference after the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) executive committee meeting at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya today.

Last Saturday, Selangor coach B. Sathianathan claimed a group of fans had made racist comments on Facebook against him and several Red Giants players. The 62-year-old also alleged that he was accused of favouritism for fielding defender K. Prabakaran in the starting line-up.Meanwhile, FAM deputy president Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi said the racism issue raised by Sathianathan did not reflect the moral standing of all football fans in Malaysia.

“Every fan must remember that ours is a multi-racial society and Malaysian football has entered a professional era. Surely every decision the coaches make are based on their players’ ability,” said Mohd Yusoff, who also advised fans to be civilised and show good manners towards players and supporters of rival teams.-- BERNAMA
