SIBU, July 22 -- Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), a component party of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), hopes that the Health Ministry (MOH) will offer more opportunities to children of Sarawak natives, to fill permanent medical officer (MO) positions in the state government hospitals.
SUPP Education Bureau chairman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing today said, most of the permanent positions were offered to candidates from other states, while the locals were only given contract positions in these hospitals.
"The MOH needs to recruit more medical officers from among Sarawak children to fill vacancies in the state government hospitals, because they will be permanent here and will be more dedicated," he told a press conference here.
Ding who is also Meradong state assemblyman also supported the proposal from Sarawak Local Government and Housing Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, on the establishment of a Sarawak Medical Council (SMC) as the only organisation to register and regulate medical practitioners in the state. -- BERNAMA
