KUCHING: Businessman Yakub Khalid will be Parti Sarawak Bersatu’s (PSB) candidate for the Muara Tuang constituency in the next state election.
This was announced by PSB president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh during a PSB Muara Tuang branch gathering hosted by the 57-year-old Yakub at Kampung Plaman Baki, here on Sunday.
The Bawang Assan assemblyman described Yakub as “honest, sincere and a man of integrity” and called on voters in Muara Tuang to rally behind him.
“Yakub is not only ever ready to assist constituents, but would also be working harder than the current representative to make sure that people get the best services.
“I hope all voters in this constituency will support him to become your next representative. I believe he is your better choice,” said Wong.
Yakub in his welcoming speech said PSB is a multiracial party that struggles for equality and the restoration of state rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), apart from making sure rural folk receive access to water and 24-hour electricity.
“PSB is an independent party and has no connection with any of the coalition in Malaysia – be it GPS or PN.
“PSB’s struggle is consistent and it is a party for all races. PSB will make sure that no one is sidelined by government policies,” he said, referring to Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Perikatan Nasional, who make up the PN Plus GPS federal government.
In previous elections, Yakub’s name was among several mentioned as potential candidates for PBB in either Muara Tuang or Kota Samarahan.
The incumbent for Muara Tuang is Datuk Idris Buang, who is PBB Information chief.
Among those present at the event Sunday were Engkilili assemblyman Dr Johnichal Rayong who is PSB vice-president, and PSB secretary-general George Lo.
